Résumé de l’intervention :
“For nearly a decade, a new category of players has been emerging on the fringes of the culture and communication industries. These platforms are distinct in their use of blockchain technology to offer digital intermediation services across a wide range of domains: content and service production and distribution, data brokerage, social networks, and applications focused on political and socio-economic governance.
This presentation will share findings from studies examining the industrial strategies, economic valuation, and ideological production of these actors. The research identifies a recurring pattern: professionals are initially drawn to this field by its promises of empowerment and ideological appeal, only to later face disillusionment due to intense communicative labour, precarious conditions, and speculative risks.
The study highlights how many participants, grappling with what they call the “Web3 Downer,” rely on various coping mechanisms and adaptive strategies to manage the associated mental strain—a dynamic that has significant consequences for the political economy of Web3.”
