Sam Famil Rouhani is a PhD student at LabSIC ​​at Sorbonne Paris-Nord University under the supervision of Emmanuelle Savignac (Sorbonne Paris-Nord University, LabSIC, Cerlis) and the co-supervision of Benjamin Barbier (Sorbonne Paris-Nord University, LabSIC).

His thesis focuses on the figure of the « player-creator » and the repurposing practices and amateur video game contents production roles and functions in the structuring of new strategies by online video platforms.

From a socio-historical perspective, his research aims to highlight the central role that the different categories of videos creators and streamers play in the video game industry and more specifically in a video game ecosystem on YouTube and Twitch. He examines the appropriation, exploitation and consumption notions as well as the links between work and leisure in order to highlight the relationships transformations between the different stakeholders (players, content creators, publishers and platforms providers) and the economic issues in the context of products and strategics structuring by industrial actors which rely on participatory culture and content production by the users of said platforms.
